Kothi Mata Temple is said to be one of the brilliant architectural built style with fine sculpture. Temple is situated on the top of Kinnaur peak, Recong Peo. Recong Peo is the city where you can reach and visit the temple. The temple is also known for its rich wooden architecture and silver plated doors. It is believed that Chandika was the eldest daughter of the demon devta Banaasur, who ruled Kinnaur. The story about the temple is the demon Devata Banasur had 18 sons and daughters. Shri Chandika Devi was eldest daughter among all. The local people hold the goddess in great approval and also consider Shri Chandika Devi to be one of the most powerful goddess. According to the legend, Chandika killed the demon with the help of a cunning female relative and her brother Chagaon Maheshwar. Now in the morning the pujaries bring water from the nearby spring and worship goddess by burning incense, while musical instruments are played by Domangs. There is a fresh water spring reservior near the temple you can see the beautiful colored fishes who grew naturally they are treated as god by villagers for the mysterious reason that they keep surviving freezing icy water beneath the 8-10 ft of snow for 3-4 months.

Place is very cold even in summers at it's peak you see the blowers in the houses. So one should carry much warm clothes to visit here. The front view of the temple is the absolutey stunning view of Kinnar Kelash mountain. The srounding of the gaured by high snowy mountains which keep the place cold.

How to reach Kothi Mata Temple Reckong Peo

the start of the summer in March the road ways to Kinnuar gets open with NH 5. From New delhi to this place it's about 20 hours of drive for 700 KM in high risky routes. The better way to visit Kothi mata temple is take bus from Shilma which is about 250 km apart and has the nearest railway station. You can set your stay in market of Recong Peo which is 20 mins of walking distance from Kothi Mata Temple.
